Caring for Your Dance Costume

Caring for Your Dance Costume! Costumes for Maxwell Dance Studio’s 2025 Spring Recital will be going home soon! Costumes go home a week or two before the week of recital. A couple things to remember and how to keep your costume in the best condition for the dance recital:
- Do NOT wear the costume or tights until dress rehearsal and recital. Take it right off after rehearsal to avoid spilling.
- If possible, change into the costume when you arrive to the venue. Traveling (at least for littles) can crumple the costume, and you never know what yucky, sticky items are in your dancer’s car seat!
- When you get home with the costume, take it out of the garment bag to store until the performance! BUT please store it in a parent’s closet or a safe place where kiddos won’t mess with it.
- If your dancer’s costume has a tutu part (the big fluffy skirt!), make sure it stays laying down towards the bottom of the garment bag. This will help to avoid it sticking up during performances or crumpling in the bag.
- NO tights during dress rehearsal! We want to avoid snagging tights before the actual recital performance.
- A reminder to not wear your dance shoes outside! It will ruin the gripping bottom of the shoe.
We hope you are as excited for the Spring Recital as we are! It’s going to be SUCH a fun one.
